helpless.helping.hand

Ever wondered if a friend in need is worthy of help? I have. Not that many times, since I love helping out those whom I love, but recently I pondered on whether my actions is appropriate or misguided.

A friend told me that I should keep in mind that a help cost the helper a sacrifice and the person being helped a promise. The first part is surely visible, but the second part is new to me. It turns out that there is no actual gesture of helping that requires nothing being expected from the person being helped.

The first expectation is so that the person being helped exits the problematic situation. A help that does not aim towards this goal is useless. The second expectation is so that the person being helped does not reenter this problematic situation again. Such condition requires a promise, a strong will, and a great effort off the person being helped.

Help is due when needed, feasible, appropriate, and makes the world a better place, any less will render a helping hand helpless.
